Analog Devices Inc. ADE9078 High-Performance AFEs

Analog Devices Inc. ADE9078 High-Performance AFEs are designed as highly accurate, fully integrated energy metering devices. The AFEs interface with current transformer (CT) and Rogowski coil sensors. Designers can use the ADE9078 AFEs to develop a 3-phase metrology platform that achieves high performance for Class 1 up to Class 0.2 meters. With the ADE9078 AFEs from Analog Devices, designers can enable one platform to cover a wide range of meters using high-end metrology features and superior analog performance.

Fully Integrated Design
The design of the AFEs integrates seven high-performance analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and a flexible DSP core. ADE9078's integrated high-end reference ensures low drift over temperature with a combined drift of less than ±25ppm/°C maximum per channel.

Integrated Flexible Waveform Buffer
The ADE9078 AFEs also include an integrated, flexible waveform buffer. The flexible waveform buffer stores samples at a fixed data rate or a sampling rate that varies based on online frequency to deliver 64 points per line cycle. The fixed data and sampling rate options allow designers to implement harmonic analysis in an external processor according to IEC 61000-4-7.

Two Power Modes Detect Meter Tampering
The ADE9078 AFEs offer two power modes to detect meter tampering. The PSM2 power mode uses a low-power comparator to compare current channels to a threshold. The PSM2 power mode then indicates whether the threshold is exceeded on the IRQ0 and IRQ1 outputs. The PSM1 power mode enables fast measurement of current and voltage RMS (xVRMS and xIRMS), active power, and VAR during a tampering incident.
